Silverfish are a bluish-silver coloring or sometimes white to brown-grey depending on the species. These insects are teardrop-shaped and can measure up to 12-19mm in length.
Silverfish can most likely be found in basements, kitchens, bathrooms, and other similar areas. These insects thrive in just about any climate but prefer dark and damp areas. It is also worth noting that they feed on shampoos, glue in books, silk in clothing, and linen.
Identifying an infestation:
Silverfish infest in dark, damp areas around paper-like sources, making it difficult to notice an infestation. However, silverfish thrive and develop faster in areas that are humid. Therefore, one of the best ways to prevent an infestation is to control humidity. It is best advised to open vents and use baseboards in basements to control the humidity.
